Redcliffe – Alpha Pi
ALPHA PI REDCLIFFE
Alpha Pi Redcliffe was chartered 27th November 1981 and celebrating our 45th Anniversary in December this year (2026).
Members meet twice monthly. The first Tuesday of the month is our business meeting, currently held at the Peacekeepers Room, Redcliffe RSL Club at 10.15 am. On the third Tuesday we meet for our education meeting at either the Peacekeepers Room or maybe at another location depending on the theme of our education meeting for that month, e.g. we could visit a museum, garden centre or other place of interest. We are in recess from December to February each year.
We hold two major Fundraisers annually – a themed Trivia night in March and a Fashion Parade, held in spring. From time to time, we may have a minor fundraising event such as a morning tea or something similar.
As a branch of ESA Queensland, we have been a long-time supporter of Cancer Council Queensland (CCQ). Presently, we support, along with all the other branches in the State, the ESA Wig and Headwear Library, operated by Cancer Council Queensland. Over the years we have participated in many other Cancer Council Queensland activities including Daffodil Day.
We have also supported the Leukaemia Foundation for many years. In 1983, we launched the ESA Princess Quest with support from ESA members and branches across Queensland. Most of the funds raised were donated to the then Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland (LFQ). The Quest eventually became too large for our branch to manage, so it was handed over to LFQ, which continued running it until it ended in 2012. Today, ESA supports the Leukaemia Foundation through the Dorothy Banks Bursary, valued at $5,000 annually.
Locally we have supported many charities on the Peninsula. Currently we support the Redcliffe Hospital Palliative Care Unit, The Redcliffe Breakfast Club and the GACAC Margate Charity.
Alpha Pi also supports the Queensland Centre for Gynaecological Cancer Research and the Forgotten Women Charity.
Members have regular social activities. Our education meetings often include lunch, morning tea or afternoon tea, as well as visits to cinemas, concerts and other social events. We have even been known to just meet for lunch or dinner to catch up for a little fun, food and frivolity!
